Dear Atlanta, We Love You
Must See places in Hotlanta.
Sizzling weather, Southern Hospitality and a smoking hot hip hop scene are three of the many reasons Atlanta has been on our travel bucket list. In wanderlust spirit, we took a trip to learn for ourselves if the reality lives up to the hype. After five days exploring the humid capital of Georgia, we’re happy to confirm it truly is a hot-spot worthy of its catchy nickname Hotlanta.
Described as the city ‘too busy to hate’ for its progressive attitude during the Civil Rights Movement (in particular when compared to other Southern cities), our trip gave us tons of things to love.
Read on for our top travel recommendations and make your trip to Hotlanta as cool as can be!
- Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Site You know what’s sexy? Intelligence. If you don’t know the importance of Martin Luther King Jr. then you better ask somebody or better yet, book yourself a plane ticket because this site is a must-see. Soak up the knowledge at various points and appreciate its historical, powerful energy.
Sign-up for a spot on one of the free tours and leave yourself at least at least two hours to explore at your own leisure. After you stroll down the Freedom Walk, take a moment to drop a beat on the piano of peace!
- Apache Café: A bit of a hidden gem (if you’re not a local that is) with tons of artistic talent ready to come out of hiding, their Open Mic Night makes for an entertaining evening. Perfect for a night out with friends or if you’re riding solo, the creative energy radiates in this casual but classy joint.
- World of Coca-Cola: Whether or not you’re in love with Coke (the beverage folks, we’re strictly talking all age drinks), this tour is fun and flavourful. Though we usually
prefer travelling to off the beaten spots, this is one tourist attraction worth seeing. With interactive areas that pay homage to the evolution of the brand, the tour is marketing at its absolute finest. If a trip down Coca-Cola memory lane doesn’t have you feeling youthful and nostalgic, the sampling area with 100 flavors from different countries is sure to leave you with a positive, sugar high.
- Piedmont Park: Looking for rest, relaxation and an opportunity to appreciate nature? Look no further than Piedmont Park. Located in the heart of the city, it’s so spacious that finding a quiet spot around the luscious grounds is easy. Up for an activity? Join the many joggers, play a game of tennis, basketball or cool down from the Hotlanta heat in the swimming pool.
- The Old Lady Gang: No trip to the South would be complete without some Southern, comfort food. Atlanta boasts tons of great restaurants but this trendy spot with classic,
hip hop music was one of our favorites. The Real Housewives of Atlanta fans brace yourselves, you may see familiar faces from the show. Spotted during our visit was Todd Tucker, clearly hard at work as restaurant owner but gracious enough to slow down and great fans – Southern Hospitality at its finest.
