Exclusive Interview With Designer Arti Gogna

Arti Gogna is a name to remember. The Indo-Canadian designer is a self-sufficient and extremely talented designer who is known for her evening wear and bridal couture. Her new bridal collection is expressive and makes a stunning statement. I personally love the Lucy Dress. The sharp silhouette and delicate lace makes this dress a sure-fire at any wedding or evening party. I love the plunging V-cut at the back. The dress will make any woman stand out from the crowd. The dress is also available in white with blue lace.

We chatted with Arti about what inspires her, the essence of her collection and how she would describe the women who support her collection.

How long have you been designing? How did you start out? Your experience?
I’ve been designing since I was a little girl, I started by making clothes for my Barbies, my mom tells me. I created my first collection at the age of 21 while attending fashion design at LaSalle College. I invited one of my teachers to the show, who also worked at Elle Canada; his reaction towards one of my pieces gave me so much motivation to keep going.

What inspires you during your creative process?
Creating something different for the girl who likes to stand out but also be comfortable and practical in what she’s wearing. I love making people feel beautiful.

How would you describe a woman who wears Arti Gogna?
The Arti Gogna woman is someone who inspires to better themselves and the world everyday. She’s honest, confident and believes in creating a beautiful life for herself.

Can you tell us a bit about your new collection?
My new collection focuses a lot on bridal wear. I’ve realized more and more that girls come to me for their special occasions so I really focused on creating the best collection for that woman.

What’s next for you in 2016?
ArtiGogna1My plan is to focus a lot on my online store and try to meet the needs of women expressing themselves through fashion across the world.

How do you bring that Asian vibe to your collection?
My parents were both born and raised in the northern part of India. I was born here in Canada. My roots inspire me during my designing process when I’m searching for fabrics, and colour combinations, Indian culture is well known for both.

What advice would you give budding designers?
I would tell him or her to keep on working. Don’t stop, even when you feel like you should, you need to push even harder. It’s all part of the process.

What’s your favourite dress from the collection?
My favourite dress from this collection is the Burgundy cut-out gown.

The color is so on point for this season. It’s one of my best sellers.

 Your proudest achievement to date?
My proudest moment was getting to this point(finally) in my career where I am comfortable being honest with everyone I deal with on a daily basis and not have to worry about whose feelings I’m hurting because in the end this is my dream and I should be fearless with it.

Favourite designers?
Right now. Zuhair Murad, DVF, Stella McCartney, Oscar De La Renta
