Finding Prince Charming
We all grew up reading the fairy tales where the princess is saved by a handsome Prince Charming that rides up on his white stallion, gives her that magical kiss and they live happily ever after. But, as we know in reality that just doesn’t happen. No white stallion, no Prince Charming, in fact these days you are more likely to meet your ‘Prince’ on Tinder or Plenty of Fish or Match or eHarmony. If you are searching for that certain someone to be your partner online dating is where it’s at.
No longer is there a stigma attached to going online to look for love. One in three couples now find love via the Internet. After all we rely on the Internet for everything from banking to ordering food, to keeping in touch with friends and family. So in this fast paced, social media focused world why not look to the Internet for finding Prince Charming.
Creating an online dating profile can be intimidating. Here are some tips to get you closer to your fairy tale ending.
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words!
Let’s face it looks matter, especially in the world of online dating. Use some good recent photos of yourself; profile face shots as well as some full body shots. Make sure to have an honest friend give you feedback on what they think before you post them.
Stay Positive and Upbeat
When you are writing your profile stay light and cheerful. No one wants to date Debbie downer. Also keep in mind you are writing a profile to capture the interest of a potential suitor, don’t write something that would appeal to your girlfriends. Ask a male friend to look it over before you put it up. Write about interesting things you do or like that will be a conversation starter.
Safety First
We have all heard some horror stories about online dating. The pictures on his profile are of him 10 years ago and 50 lbs lighter or he is married and only online to have a little fun, the list goes on… So before you meet make sure you check him out, have a phone conversation with him, Google him, or even add him on Facebook. When you do go out on a date make sure to tell a friend where you are going and with whom. It is better to be safe than sorry.
The First Date
People can always tell within the first 3 minutes if they are interested or not. So, your first meeting should always be something short and sweet. That way if you are having fun it can turn into more but if you are not you can make a fast escape! Meet for coffee or a drink. If you are enjoying each others company you can always turn your date into a dinner, or better yet, leave him wanting more and schedule your next date.
Most importantly you need to be honest with yourself about what you are looking for. Don’t feel like you have to settle. You may not find Mr. Right on the first date, it may take 5 or 10 or maybe you will be that lucky girl that gets swept off her feet by Prince Charming.
