The Talk 2.0 Raises Money for Youth Arts Charity

Toronto’s philanthropic set gathered for The Talk 2.0 raises over $108,000 for UforChange, a Youth Arts Charity

On Tuesday, November 19, 2019, five innovative minds came together to support of one of Canada’s most creative charities, UforChange, for the second annual “The Talk”. A live panel discussion with producer and director Barry Avrich, award-winning writer and editor Sabrina Maddeaux, celebrity fashion designer Christopher Paunil, and CBC broadcaster and writer Amanda Parris, moderated by philanthropist and Mantella Corporation’s Chief Marketing Officer Sylvia Mantella, and hosted by Nicole Servinis of Breakfast Television raised over $108,000. Proceeds will fund free arts programming and education for youth across the Greater Toronto Area.

The Talk’s topic this year, “Transparency of Success” uncovered how these creative leaders paved their inimitable path in their respective industries through candid, unforgettable, and motivating stories of struggle and achievement.

A diverse audience of Toronto’s most influential creators and business leaders along with emerging artists from the UforChange program came together to enjoy a one-hour networking cocktail prior to the panel discussion.

“This year’s event was such a great success. We exceeded our ambitious fundraising goal while ensuring our costs were as minimal as possible”, says event co-chair Sarah Paterson, “This event would not be what it is without our ever-talented moderator Sylvia Mantella who expertly guided the conversation and flow of the evening. Our esteemed and diverse panelists were captivating and so transparent in their telling of the stories of their success our audience could have listened to them talk and share their insights all night. On behalf of everyone who worked on this event, thank you to each and every one of our supporters who have helped us continue to be able to ensure the UforChange arts programs will benefit the next generation of creatives.”

Celebrating their 10 year anniversary this year, UforChange has been committed to providing young people, ages 16 to 29, from all over the Greater Toronto Area, with a combination of creative, practical, and soft skills that will help them develop their careers in a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment. Since 2009, UforChange has served over 2,450 youth from all over the Greater Toronto Area, over 600 youth have graduated from their Core Arts Program from which 323 joined post-secondary education, 555 were offered paid employment opportunities, and 665 volunteer opportunities.

Proceeds from ticket sales and donations will help fuel the next generation of young creatives at the charitable organization by allowing youth to obtain a free arts education during the next program cycle.
