It’s been 30 years since we entered the Danger Zone!! Yes, thirty years ago, Top Gun flew into theaters and became one of the most iconic films of the 1980’s.
Top Gun, (for those of you who haven’t seen it) is the story of an elite group of pilots competing to be the best in their class at the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School and earn the title of “Top Gun”. Enter cocky, talented hotshot Maverick (Tom Cruise) whose arrogance and recklessness makes him enemies like the cool, confident Iceman (Val Kilmer). Maverick is also in hot pursuit of his flight instructor Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis) – who eventually teaches him moves for in the air and in the bedroom.
The classic also starred Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, Meg Ryan and Michael Ironside.
Top Gun became a huge summer blockbuster and the highest grossing film of 1986 earning over $350 million.
Not only was this a theatrical success the soundtrack had timeless hits like Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” and Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone”.
It also started unforgettable trends; Ray Ban aviators, blond hair tips, buzz cuts and flat tops as well as the biggest trend – brown leather bomber jackets. Everyone had to have one, guys and girls.
The Limited Edition Blu-ray Combo Steelbook features the Blu-ray, DVD and UltraViolet versions of the movie with featurettes including interviews with Tom Cruise and director Tony Scott.
