Wendell Rodricks – International Fashion Icon
Designer Wendell Rodricks has put Goa firmly on the fashion map!
Trained in Los Angeles and Paris, he returned to India in 1988. Rodricks established his own label in 1990. He later moved to his ancestral village in Goa in 1993, and there has been no looking back since. His ready-to-wear line with its stylish yet minimalistic designs have found many fans.
Rodricks was the first India designer to be invited to IGEDO (the world’s largest garment fair) in Germany and the first Indian designer to open the Dubai Fashion Week.
Wendell has found phenomenal success both in India and internationally. He was recently conferred with the prestigious Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight in the National Order of Arts and Lettres) for his contribution to the fashion industry in France and throughout the world.
Just earlier this year Wendell was also bestowed with the Padma Shri honour for being one of the names in the fashion industry to have revolutionized the Indian fashion scene and promote it globally.
The Wendell Rodricks signature style is unique in India, blending ancient Indian geometry with a relaxed Goan attitude. His art designs truly reflect the inspiration drawn from ancient India. Simple cuts and perfectly conceived light and fluid attires are his forte.
His collections reflect his inspiration drawn from the Tibetan Monasteries, Tribal symbols of Shiva and Vishnu, the Harem at Istanbul, Tattoos of the Lambadi tribe and Clothing the Soul. His creativity is sharply visible in his exceptional collection of VISIONNAIRE- that had Braille on fabrics.
Wendell Rodricks has done a lot of work for the state of Goa including designing uniforms for the Goa State Traffic Police, the Four Seasons, the Goa Marriott Resort, the Vasco Sports Club football team and the staff of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation. Internationally, he was involved with designing advertisements for Wellspun, Delsey, SWATCH Bijoux, Breguet and Raymond Weil.
Rodricks is currently putting finishing touches on his new collection ‘Yoga Calm’ which not only promises to satiate fashion sense but also calm the inner spirit and take you to a Zen space.
Despite living in a small village, Wendell Rodrick has managed to direct the fashion trend for India and the world because of his sheer hard work, undeniable creativity and talent.
