Your Spring Cleaning Checklist
Spring-cleaning comes but once a year, so it’s important to make it count! After a long winter, many people like to give their homes a good scrub from top to bottom. You’ll want to get rid of all the dust and debris that collects over the winter months in your home. Once the warmer weather arrives and the sun slowly starts to show its face on a more regular basis, why not get the family together and compile a spring-cleaning checklist to get everything nice and clean for summer?
Let’s take a look at a few spring-cleaning chores you can add to the checklist to make sure your home is sparkling and just as good as new.
Clean the Windows
Cleaning the windows can be quite a strenuous chore. Depending on how big your house is, you might have windows on all sides of the home, or if you live in a smaller apartment, perhaps you only have a few to keep clean. Either way, you’ll need lots of paper towels to wipe up any dirt that has accumulated over the winter season.
Check out online Canadian contests that get you the cleaning supplies you need — for free! For example, if you sign up for the Purex newsletter, you could qualify to win $700 worth of Purex paper products, including paper towels! This contest goes until the end of December 2020, and it’s open to Canadian contestants. Wiping your windows will feel all the more gratifying, knowing that you didn’t have to spend a cent on the paper towel! There are incredible online contests posted online every day, so keep your eye out for other fun and practical prize giveaways.
Wash All of Your Baseboards
Baseboards are an overlooked part of the house. It’s easy to miss unless you drop something on them or are giving your home a once-over before dinner guests arrive. If you neglect to clean them, baseboards can get pretty grimy, so be sure to include them as part of your spring-cleaning routine.
Follow these simple steps to get your baseboards nice and clean:
- Move any furniture away from the walls so you can squeeze in where necessary to properly clean
- Dry dust the baseboards using a microfiber cloth or a vacuum cleaner attachment. Find a soft material like a towel or a yoga mat to kneel on so you won’t hurt your knees
- Combine about 2 quarts warm water with a dishwashing liquid and use the cloth to wipe the baseboards
- Before you put the furniture back, make sure everything is nice and dry
Not only will you have clean baseboards, but they’ll also radiate a lovely, fresh smell throughout the house!
Air Out Your Rugs
Do you have area rugs? If you do, it’s essential to do more than vacuum (although that’s important, too). On a beautiful, sunny day, take them out and lay them out on your laundry line on the fence.
Channel your best old-fashioned grandma, find a broom, and beat the rugs for a few minutes! It will help get rid of any pieces of dirt or dust. For extra freshness, they can sit in the sun for a few hours.
Whatever you decide to add to your checklist, be sure to make the spring-cleaning fun and safe!
