An apple a day keeps the doctor away
How many times have we heard this saying? Now, is it really true? Well, let’s check out some of the benefits this easy to eat and readily available fruit has to offer:
- Contains a high antioxidant level which helps reduce the risk of all cancers. Furthermore, the peel contains compounds that have potent anti-growth activities against cancer cells in the liver, colon and breast
- Keeps your teeth clean. You still need to brush your teeth; however, chewing an apple lowers the level of bacteria which reduces your risk of tooth decay
- Reduces your risk of Alzheimer’s. Apples help fight the aging process of the brain
- Reduces the risk of diabetes
- Helps protect against Parkinson’s
- Reduces cholesterol and therefore can keep your heart healthy
- Helps prevent gallstones
- The high fibre content can help reduce weight
- High fibre content can also prevent constipation and neutralize irritable bowel syndrome
- Helps detoxify your liver
- Helps boost the immune system
- May help prevent cataracts
Wow! It looks like our moms were right. This one fruit alone seems to take care of our health from head to toe. I personally love this fruit. If I’m looking for something sweet, I often cut up apple slices, then sprinkle some cinnamon on top and bake the slices. It’s a great dessert in the cold weather.
And it’s not just apples — apple juice does wonders too
