Fitness On The Road
Keeping up your fitness routine while you’re travelling can seem like a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are a few easy things you can do to keep fit and have fun while on the road.
- Use your weight
Exercising doesn’t have to mean expensive gym equipment, large pools or outdoor tracks. Pushups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, squats and lunges are just a few examples of exercises that require no equipment, minimal space, and pack a lot of punch.
- Use a map and pack your sneakers
It’s easy to let cab drivers take us here and there when we are visiting a new place. However, a map, your sneakers and a sense of adventure can take you farther than you imagined. Get in a great walk while visiting destinations on foot, all while taking in views and culture up close in a way that a car just won’t allow.
- Start healthy, indulge after
Of course you want to enjoy all the delicious, rich food when you’re travelling somewhere new. And you should. Just be sure to do it in moderation. Start your meals with a salad to get in a good serving of fibre and nutrients, and share a local dessert with a friend. Get all the taste, half the calories.
- Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water in transit and while on vacation. Staying hydrated will help to prevent midday tiredness and you won’t consume unnecessary calories with high sugar juices and sodas.
- Pack a snack
While you’re on the road, plan to take healthy snacks with you. Apples, oranges and pears are fruits that you can throw in a backpack and eat any time. Granola bars and nuts are tasty treats that are great on-the-go as well.
Don’t let your vacation derail your fitness. Find ways to make your vacation active, and you’re guaranteed to enjoy your time away from home that much more.
