“Letter From Masanjia” Shines Light on Human Right Violations
A Social Justice Documentary on Prisoner Labour Efforts
Acclaimed filmmaker and Peabody Award winner, Leon Lee’s documentary “Letter From Masanjia,” shines a powerful light on human rights violations in China this Halloween season.
The documentary tells the story of a young mother buying Halloween decorations at a local Kmart, only to discover a letter asking for help from a prisoner in a labour camp in China. It’s a devastating tale of human rights violations with corporate giants across the globe receiving prisoner labour efforts for Halloween decorations. This is the tale of one political prisoner’s desperate plea to alert the world to the horrors most of society sweeps under the carpet.
“Letter from Mansajia” had its theatrical debut in New York and Los Angeles in September 2018, and will now be brought across North America on DVD & VOD/Digital platforms including: iTunes, Amazon, FandangoNow, VUDU, Xbox, Vimeo, and Google Play on December 4th, 2018.
Already, the documentary has been entered in numerous festivals and won numerous awards including “Audience Award for Documentary Feature” at the 2018 Asian American International Film Festival, and was also nominated as a top 20 audience favourite at the 2018 Hot Docs Canadian Documentary Film Festival.
