With having everything at our finger tips, it is so easy to pick up the phone, order meals and have them delivered. Not to mention the variety of food that is available to us, why would anyone want to cook? For starters how about for health reasons, if you don’t have your health then nothing else matters. Even if you are healthy today, eating the wrong kinds of food can add up leading to an unhealthy future. Not convinced, here are some other reasons why you might want to start cooking:

Freshness

When you cook at home you have control of what goes in your recipe. You control the quantity and the quality of the food. For example, you can use the healthy oils whereas most restaurants will use the cheapest oils, which are not necessarily healthy. Also, you can use fresh vegetables and you know exactly when you made the meal. Restaurant dishes can be sitting around for a long time and you don’t know how many times they have reheated them. This in turn causes the loss of certain nutrients.

Bulk up

Cooking at home does not mean that you have to cook every day. Double up on recipes and the leftovers can be used for a few lunches or dinner the next day. Unlike our ancestors we have refrigerators that allow our food to stay for a few days, depending on the dish.

Makes you feel good

This can be your new hobby, because you are learning a new skill or perfecting an existing skill. You can be creative and start putting your own touches to certain recipes. This will make you feel good especially when people start complimenting your cooking and start asking you for recipes. It’s a great sense of accomplishment.

Bonding

Cooking is a great way to bond with your family, especially if you have kids. It’s a great way to get your children to help out and teach them about healthy eating. Also, you and your significant other can start cooking together instead of always going out for dinner.

Start with easy recipes and maybe even slow cooker recipes in which you are mostly just throwing things in. The beauty these days is if you don’t know an ingredient you can search for it on your phone. Start small and before you know it you will be looking up your favourite meal recipe and duplicating it the healthy way. Make cooking a part of your lifestyle for better health, which will leave you saving money and calories.
