Top Canadian Shows To Binge-Watch
Here are four homegrown, made-in-Canada series streaming now on CraveTV that will have you proud to wave our flag.
Orphan Black (seasons 1-4). With the fifth and final season of the sci-fi drama set to air in 2017, Regina’s Tatiana Maslany continues to amaze audiences by portraying 11 distinct characters. Maslany is the first-ever Canadian actor from a Canadian series to win an Emmy award. In Orphan Black, she stars in the lead role of Sarah, an outsider and orphan whose life changes dramatically after assuming the identity of a dead stranger who looks just like her.
Letterkenny (seasons 1-2). This CraveTV-original series features the distinctive, authentic and irreverent small-town humour that quickly make it a cult hit. Letterkenny follows Wayne (Jared Keeso), a good-ol’ country boy in Letterkenny, Ontario trying to protect his homegrown way of life on the farm against a world that is constantly evolving around him. With two seasons under its belt and a third one greenlit, this show is hitting its stride.
19-2 (seasons 1-4). Nominated for an International Emmy Award in 2016, the series that the New York Times calls “sublime . . . in the tradition of shows like The Wire,” follows the lives of two cops, officers Nick Barron and Ben Chartier, of the Montreal Police Department. Among its many accomplishments, 19-2 shows the versatility of star Letterkenny star Jared Keeso.
The Amazing Race Canada (seasons 1-3). No other production celebrates our country as much as this series, which puts competitors through gruelling challenges from sea to shining sea. With a fifth season in the works, it is no doubt that when it comes to reality series, we’re up for the challenge.
