Creative Stars On The Rise in 2019
The actors, musicians and artists to watch this year
At the start of the new year, everyone promises change. 2019 has already started off with a bang – check out these four influential content creators making big moves and on the rise in 2019.
Marsai Martin
This little lady is set to become the youngest executive producer in a Hollywood film. The film, Little, was pitched by Martin when she was just 10 years old. Fast-forward a couple years, and Martin is producing while also starring as the lead in the film alongside Regina Hall and Issa Rae. Martin is proof that age certainly does not matter – you just have to believe in yourself! Her movie is expected to hit theatres on April 12, 2019.
H.E.R
This 21 year old R&B singer has five grammy nominations (Best New Artist, Album of the Year, R&B Album, R&B Song, R&B Performance) and is intentionally attempting to keep a low profile. Kind of. While H.E.R stands for “Having Everything Revealed”, the singer stays anonymous with only a handful of interviews and hiding her face so that people will love her music for what it is, without the looks, followers, or clout. This inspirational icon shares her success is to not conform and speak the truth from your heart. The 61st Annual Grammy Awards will take place February 10, 2019.
Mena Massoud
This Canadian actor snagged the lead role in Disney’s live action film, Aladdin. We can expect tons of singing and dancing from Massoud, along with his co-stars, Will Smith (as Genie) and Naomi Scott (as Princess Jasmine). The long anticipated film will be be released on May 24, 2019 – but that’s not all. Massoud has three other films to be released this year. Strange But True (alongside Nick Robinson and Amy Ryan), Warning (with Netflix’s breakout star, Lana Condor, and Alex Petttyfer), and Reprisal (with Abigail Spencer). All are set to be released in 2019. We’re sure Massoud will become a household name soon enough.
Virgil Abloh
This fashion designer and creative director is also the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear. His label, Off-White has quickly become a 2019 red carpet staple. The brand means, “defining the grey area between black and white as the colour”. His latest event, the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fashion Week show took place on January 17, 2019 in Paris. The theme? Michael Jackson inspired. A monochrome palette matched with Michael Jackson’s discography filled the space. The final looks were draped with flags from different countries, a nod towards Jackson’s “We Are the World” charity single while also pushing Louis Vuitton’s “global view on diversity” theme this year.
