Hot Colours Heat up Falls Cooler Temps

Beauty Trends For Fall/Winter 2015

As the seasons change, so do makeup trends! Pink lips and nails were great for summer, but as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, the colour trends are getting warmer to reflect the changing seasons.

Makeup for Fall/Winter 2015 is taking us on a bit of a walk down memory lane, with a twist. The lips are a throwback to the 1990s, while the eyes are all about today. Mix and match from this season’s hottest makeup looks to come up with a style that is uniquely autumn, and perfectly you.

  1. Metallic Lids

Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in EblouiWhether you prefer gold, silver or fall’s new fave copper-bronze, a little shimmer on your eyelids goes a long way. The models at NYFW were rocking metallic shades on the runways of Nicole Miller, Tom Ford and DVF, and the look is an easy one to copy. Blend your metallic shadow lightly from your lash line up towards your brow, with no hard lines in the crease of your eye. Metallics that work for everyone with staying power for days include Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in Ebloui and Bobbi Brown Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadow.

  1. Flushed Cheeks

Diorblush in Coral BagatellePut away your contouring kit this season, and grab a hold of your big brush and light pink blush. This
season is all about adding that flush of crisp fall air to your cheeks, and the models strutting the
catwalk for Jason Wu, BCBG and Ralph Lauren at NYFW all rocked the rosy cheek. To perfect the look, use a pink-toned highlighter on the top of your cheekbones, and blend it with a light blush on your cheeks for a glow that looks like it’s coming from the inside out. Our standby blushes are Yves Saint Laurent Rosy Blush, and Dior Diorblush in Coral Bagatelle.

  1. Dark, Berry Lips

Laura Mercier Chrome Extravagance Lip Parfait Creamy Color Balm in Crème de CassisBack in the 90s, dark lips were all the rage, only to be replaced by pinks and nudes in the new millennium. But now berry lips are back, and better than ever! Emanuel Ungaro and Marc Jacobs featured the dark-stained lips on their runways this fall, and though it may seem intimidating, trust us. The bold look is something you can do from home. Burgundy, brick, deep plum and dark wine are the pallet you’re going for. Our fave is Laura Mercier Chrome Extravagance Lip Parfait Creamy Color Balm in Crème de Cassis.

Before you apply the lipstick, dab your lips with a little concealer to give the colour something to hold onto, and make sure you line them well with a matching lip liner. For precision, use a lip brush to fill your lips in. Keep the rest of your makeup minimal, and let the focus be on your perfect pout.

  1. Big Brows

Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow WizGone are the pencil-thin brows of Madonna’s Vogue days. Big brows are back, and Elie Saab, Burberry and Giambattista Valli all showcased beautiful feathery brows on their runways this season. The idea here is a little wild, but a little groomed. To get the look, use a brow pencil to make quick, tiny strokes to mimic brow hairs. Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz is the perfect pencil to fill in any gaps. Then brush your brows upwards starting in the inner corner of your eye, and brush outwards towards the tail.

  1. Red Lips

L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in British RedThat’s right ladies; the red lip is here to stay! If dark berry lips are not your look, keep your fashion face on point by finding the red that you love to rock. If your skin is very fair, stick to reds with orange or pink undertones, for a look that’s pretty but not Goth. Try L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in British Red, or Revlon Super Lustrous Pearl Lipstick in Red Lacquer.

Darker skin tones are best complimented with cool reds with blue undertones – think deep cranberry to crimson. We love darker skin tones that rock MAC Lipstick in Dubonnet or Russian Red. Remember that red can be more sheer than it looks in the tube, so to deepen the intensity of the colour on your lips, dab a little foundation on your lips first. This cancels out the pigment in your lips, and allows more of the lipstick colour to come through.

Whichever look you go for, wear it well, walk tall and proud. And remember that the best beauty trend that never goes out of style is your beautiful smile!
