Red Baraat Comes to the Beaches International Jazz Festival

For the 2017 season, the festival is embracing a diverse range of music and fans by featuring Red Baraat Saturday July 29 at the OLG Main Stage.

The Beaches International Jazz Festival has been a Toronto summer staple for over 25 years. Every year the festival grows.

Red Baraat is an eight-piece band from Brooklyn, New York. Their music fuses North Indian Bhangra rhythms with the eclectic sounds of funk, Latin and jazz more commonly found in the Americas. They entered the music scene in 2008. Red Baraat’s blistering performances have dazzled audiences at events around the world including the Chicago World Music Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival and Finland’s Pori Jazz Festival.

Their debut album Chaal Baby (2010) received overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans and critics alike and was voted as a top world and jazz release of 2010 by leading music critics. The group’s second studio album in 2013, Shruggy Ji, debuted at number one on the Billboard World Music charts and propelled the band on a nonstop three-year world tour that included appearances at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD Festivals in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The group recently released a third studio album, Bhangra Pirates.
