Wedding Dress Trends For Every Bride

Shopping for a wedding dress should be fun, but it can also be confusing and overwhelming. That’s why so many brides seek out someone like Andrea Anastasiou for help.

Andrea is a fashion stylist and the owner of White, Toronto and White, Montreal, two of the country’s most luxe bridal boutiques. With over 20 years of experience working in the fashion industry, Andrea has seen bridal trends come and go, and she knows what brides today are looking for.

“Brides are searching for statement making gowns, something completely different than their best friend, or sister or cousin”, she says. Andrea also credits Instagram and Pinterest for bringing attention to smaller designers who create specialty dresses for their brides, giving each girl that unique feel she’s looking for on her wedding day.

Every bride comes into a White boutique with her own individual style, but there are trends in bridal fashion that run through each season. Andrea shared this year’s top five bridal trends with us.

An Open Back

Open and low-back dresses ruled bridal fashion runways for 2016, and their popularity is no surprise. An open back is sexy, unexpected and lets a bride show some skin while keeping it family friendly. More and more women also have back tattoos that they want to show off as part of their bridal statement. The open back proves that no matter where trends in wedding dresses go, skin is always in.

Light and Airy

Breezy, ethereal dresses are making a major statement this year, because brides are looking for dresses that are not just beautiful, but also comfortable to wear. At the White boutiques, Andrea has seen increase in the number of women looking for light and airy dresses that flow and move, making the bride feel graceful and beautiful while keeping her focus on her day, not her dress.

V-Necks

This universally flattering neckline has been a staple in wedding dresses for years, and it remains a strong trend among brides today. For 2016, designers are making the V-neck a statement maker in itself, and Andrea has found that new and innovative V-neck designs are a hit with today’s brides. Necklines today are dipping lower then they used to, and embellishments keep the look current while helping each bride to find her own unique style.

Gold

Metallics are here to stay, and gold is the most universally flattering metallic of all. At the White boutiques, Andrea has noted an uptick in the number of brides looking for dresses that have gold detailing in them. “There’s something so beautiful and dramatic about wearing the metallic tone”, Andrea says. Gold lace, gold beading or a dress made of beautiful gold fabric will certainly make your dress stand out from the rest.

Tattooed Lace

Andrea has seen more and more brides looking for tattooed lace – lace looks like it’s floating on your skin. It is one of the hottest trends in wedding dresses right now, especially over the arms, chest and back. The fabric beneath the lace is nude, creating an ethereal illusion that fits the style of high-glamour and low-key brides alike.
